Taupo's Enhanced Lakefront Development
Taupo, one of the North Island’s most-visited destinations for New Zealanders and international tourists, has recently undergone a remarkable transformation along its lakefront. With its natural beauty and vibrant atmosphere, Taupo is a magnet for adventure seekers and leisure travellers alike.

Amidst this dynamic environment, Keir Landscaping and Structures Limited has completed a noteworthy project: the Taupo Lakefront footpath upgrade alongside Camex Civil. Tasked with supplying and constructing timber structures, Keir Landscaping and Structures Limited has played a pivotal role in enhancing the region's appeal.
Vision and Execution:
Throughout the upgrade, KLS did what they do best and meticulously integrated the timber structures with the natural landscape of the lake. Ensuring a harmonious blend with the surrounding environment. The upgrade features expansive 3-metre-wide boardwalk sections with integrated timber and stainless-steel handrails designed to withstand heavy loads - a 2.5-tonne per metre load capacity to ensure durability and safety for all users. Complementing this robust design is the use of Tonka hardwood decking, renowned for its strength and longevity in outdoor environments.
Challenges and Triumphs:
One of the significant challenges encountered during the project was working next to the lake throughout the winter months. Keir Landscaping and Structures Limited navigated the obstacles that arose with expertise, implementing specialised techniques and equipment to ensure the safety of the team and the integrity of the structures. Despite the complexities, the team's dedication to excellence prevailed, resulting in a successful outcome.
Adding to the development is a striking 3-metre-high glulam viewing platform, offering sweeping views of the enhanced lakefront. This platform, constructed with precision-engineered glulam beams, provides a sturdy and elevated vantage point for visitors to admire the scenic beauty of Lake Taupo.
Under the leadership of seasoned professionals including Josh Ireland, Jed Keir, Vaughan Nilsson, Fergus Jones, Lucas Chatham, and Trent Frank, Keir Landscaping and Structures Limited brought a wealth of expertise to the project. From meticulous planning to precise execution, the team navigated challenges with finesse and dedication.
